“I’m out here, I’m hungry. I don’t play’ around, trust me.” – David Dallas (from “Runnin'”)
Arguably the biggest innovator in hip hop New Zealand has seen in decades, David Dallas has sold out shows across New Zealand, Australia and the United States; released three chart-topping albums, opened for superstars including Eminem, toured with Run The Jewels, and received a long list of accolades.
After signing to underground powerhouse Duck Down Music in 2011, David Dallas released The Rose Tint LP in the US for free digitally, racking up more than 60,000 downloads worldwide and achieving A-rotates on MTV US for singles ‘Take A Picture’ and ‘Caught In a Daze’ (feat. Freddie Gibbs), before embarking on a huge tour throughout North America with hip-hop duo, Aer.
David Dallas has since gone on to win New Zealand music awards for Best Hip Hop Album and Best Male Artist, and achieve platinum status with his hit single ‘Runnin,’ from his critically acclaimed 2013 album Falling Into Place.
This time around, David Dallas releases “Fit In,” the lead single from his highly-anticipated forthcoming album (due out late April via Universal Music). Produced by Melbourne-based Styalz Fuego and Nic M, the new single evokes the feeling of an updated take on early 21st century two-step. With smooth vocals from British newcomer Laurent John, and razor sharp bars from David Dallas, ‘Fit In’ sees the NZ trendsetter continue to stand out and reinvent his sound.
David Dallas took a fans-first approach to the release of the new single by premiering it live to Facebook from Auckland’s Red Bull Studios last Thursday night.
